an inquiry

Okay, so here is this idea I have been kicking around in my head for some time:

A monthly "committee of correspondence." A group of people who gets together on a regular basis and writes letters, to their representatives, to the editor of their local papers, etc. People would bring information on causes that were important to them, and then could pick and choose of the information presented to write letters. People could share expertise on issues and writing effective letters, and encourage each other to write more. Handwritten letters are so much more effective than those emails and petition signatures we dash off when pressed, but let's face it, without regular motivation, many of our good intentions go unheeded.

The idea could be expanded to include taking up a donation for a different featured cause each month. Maybe bringing snacks, and encourage "suggested donations" to pay for them. Or crafts!

I did this once in Tucson, and it was great.

I would like to do this in the Lansing area, hopefully monthly. I was thinking on a Sunday afternoon, but I'm not sure what would be an appropriate venue. In Tucson I held it at my house, but of course, I don't live in Lansing!

So here are my questions for you:
If you're in the Lansing area, or within driving distance, would you be interested?
Could you come on Sunday afternoons? Or would another day be better?
Do you have an idea for a good venue?
